HARD NOT TO BREAK OUT IN SONG!

I saw The Bodyguard last night with my boyfriend and though it was really hard not to break out in song, I managed to restrain myself! (I think he was really glad I did!) Luckily at the end there is a chance to stand up and join in the fun. The sets and costumes are really beautiful with a touch of 1950s glamour, and Beverly Knight's voice is incredible - she hit every note perfectly!

BEAUTIFUL SINGING AND STAGING

I went last night with my girlfriend and really enjoyed the show. The set design and stage changes were very impressive. I particularly liked the slow motion action involving the stalker! Effective and creepy! The singing was quite simply exceptional! I'd recommend you go watch this show.

STRUGGLNG

Grear show but leads voice leaves alot to be desired, struggled on many tunes and timing of script nd the sound engineers had to work extremely hard. The supporting sisters voice absolutely amazing, cast good , dancing great. Nevertheless enjoyed the night. A 6th March evening we won't forget

A GRIPPING SHOW WITH SHOW STOPPING WHITNEY HOUSTON HITS

What is the plot of the Bodyguard? The Bodyguard is based on the 1993 hit film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Rachel Marron is a superstar. She has everything from fame, money and a great career. However, she attracts a dangerous stalker. As events intensify he will not stop until he gets Rachel for his own. This makes her vulnerable and the stalker gets close to her. As a result her protection needs to be strengthened and so former secret service agent Frank Farmer is recruited to become her bodyguard. Rachel refuses to co-operate with him with the limitations that he has imposed on her life and so he needs to understand her life. Therefore there is a romance that connects them together where they discover that their opposite worlds have a lot in common with each other. However their love comes at a compromise. What themes are explored in The Bodyguard? The themes that are explored in The Bodyguard are love, family, crime, fame, friendship, loss and protection. Cast Melody Thornton was brilliant as Rachel Marron. She had a great stage presence and made the character her own. Her chemistry with Fletcher her son was infectious and this showcased a softer and warm side which allowed us to connect with her personality. Her vocal range was exquisite to watch and her dancing was superb. Her chemistry with Frank Farmer (Ayden Callaghan) was great to watch. They were a good partnership and it allowed the love sub-plot to develop effortlessly in the show. Frank Farmer (Ayden Callaghan) was impeccable in the role and his acting was so natural and with ease. It was great that he did the role in his own style. His scenes with Fletcher were emotional portraying the strong, stable father figure that he needs in his life. It was amazing to see also how much his emotion and facial expressions did the talking beautifully in the silent scenes. Emily Rae as Nicki Marron had a beautiful voice that was crystal clear. Her storytelling was immaculate especially in the scenes where she shows her love for Frank. Her facial expressions and body language was exceptional to watch. She has bags of talent. Marios Nicolaides gave us goosebumps as The Stalker. He was immense in being transformed from a physical and dangerous man to having great control without saying a word is sensational. He also provided excitement as you could not judge where he would appear next Kaylenn Aires Fonseca as Fletcher was the dark horse of the cast. This was evident from the start showing off his incredible moves with the adult dancers. This was also the case with his sheer talent of singing and dancing. The rest of the cast which featured James Groom, John Macaulay, Graham Elwell, and Fergal Coghlan provided the needed light-hearted relief. They all had moments where their characters shined on stage. They helped to deliver the story in an energetic and in a fast paced manner. Sets There was a great variety of set changes in this production that was done effortlessly and with ease. This included the concert vibe with the neon spotlights to the mansion. You were also transported to other locations such as the police station, karaoke bar, a dance studio, a log cabin, and backstage at the Oscars. The sets were full of glamour, style and energy. Soundtrack This show includes endless hits of Whitney Houston that are uplifting and have emotion too. They give people joy and a feeling of happiness hearing them as part of the stage show. Highlights included Run To You, One Moment in Time, Greatest Love of All, How Will I Know and the powerful I Will Always Love You. The encore at the end where all cast members sang I Wanna Dance with Somebody was enlightening and put a smile on people’s faces before leaving the auditorium. Great vibes. It was great to see how the songs were intertwined into the story. Also the director was clever at placing the songs in the right places so the fast numbers perfectly matched the choreographic routines and the ballads with the emotional scenes. Costumes The costumes were good. They were full of sparkle and glamour especially in the big numbers and in the Oscars scene. The male cast members wore suits in which stood out. Choreography The choreography was exquisite to watch and was stylish. The dancing in the energetic numbers was slick and provided moments of Hollywood pizzas. Atmosphere The atmosphere was good however there were big banners around the theatre and warnings to refrain from singing so that all can enjoy this spectacular show. This then allows you to join in the encore at the end. Fair? If you love a great story that is full of drama, romance, and Whitney Houston hits then The Bodyguard is for you.

What we thought

TECHNOLOGICAL Interesting amazed!

At the start you are treated to a full-on concert experience that Lady Gaga would be jealous of!

Chock-full of Houston's songs that made the film as memorable as it is today, but they fit well into the overall narrative well, without halting it.
