A Jersey Boys Song for Each Season!
A soundtrack that’s as sweet as a glass of sherry
Originally, Frankie Valli and The Four Lovers auditioned for a residency at the Four Seasons Bowling Alley in Union, New Jersey. Although they didn't land the job, the experience inspired them to adopt the venue's name and become The Four Seasons!
But because we like to do things a little differently, let's imagine their name was inspired by the four seasons of the year instead! We've picked a Jersey Boys song for spring, summer, autumn, and winter. And don't forget - Jersey Boys is on tour across the UK now. Oh, what a night you'll have!
Spring - "Beggin'"
New beginnings, fresh starts, and that first breath of fresh spring air! Beggin''s bouncy energy and infectious rhythm fit perfectly with the optimism of springtime. the song reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the group's most enduring hits. Decades later, it found a whole new audience after Italian rock band Mneskin recorded a cover that went viral around the world in 2021.
Fun fact: Despite its modern popularity, Beggin' is actually over 50 years old!
Summer - "Sherry"
Nothing says summer quite like Sherry. Warm evenings, beach trips, and young love energy. If any Four Seasons song sounds like sunshine, it's this one. Released in 1962, the song became the band's first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, launching The Four Seasons into superstardom and kicking off an incredible run of chart success.
Fun fact: Frankie Valli originally wasn't convinced he could hit the song's famous high notes, but that distinctive vocal became one of the group's trademarks!
Autumn - "My Eyes Adored You"
This heartfelt ballad captures the wistful feeling of looking back on a special time that's passed, like an autumn leaf falling from a tree. Released in 1974 as a solo single by Frankie Valli, My Eyes Adored You reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the biggest hits of his career outside of The Four Seasons.
Fun fact: The song was initially rejected by Valli's record label, but he believed in it so strongly that he bought the master recording himself and released it independently - ultimately turning it into a chart-topping smash.
Winter - "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"
Winter is the season for cosy nights, grand gestures, and a little romance, and with its soaring melody and that epic buildup to the chorus, this classic is cosy and nostalgic as a huddle by the fire on Christmas morning! Released in 1967, the song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Fun fact: Although it never reached No. 1, Can't Take My Eyes Off You has become one of the most covered songs of all time, appearing in countless films, television shows, and stage productions.
